How to Remove Microwave Smells

Modern appliances can be very convenient. You can cook a variety of things in them and many of them save you time. In order to extend the lifetime of your appliances and to prevent a house fire, you should regularly clean them.

Clean the Turntable and Interior
You may have some odors lingering inside your microwave from the last time you cooked: Tomato smell from leftover spaghetti, the chicken smell from your canned soup lunch, or smoke smell from the time you cooked your popcorn just a little too long. Follow this method to clear these odors:

  • Squeeze out a lemon and place the peels into a safe-to-heat bowl filled with one cup of water.
  • Heat the lemon water for five to ten minutes.
  • Let stand for five more minutes.
  • Carefully remove the bowl.
  • Wipe down the entire interior with a soft cloth.
  • Don't forget the turntable.

Voila! No more smoke smell or any other unpleasant aromas. It's important to note that you shouldn't use anything abrasive, as that can cause damage and increase the risk of a fire during use.

Clean the Vent Grill and Exterior
If your appliance is found over your stovetop, then after you wipe the exterior of your appliance, you will also need to remove and clean the grills and vents. These collect a lot of greases while they are working. If you haven't cleaned it in a while, it will take a lot of scrubbing. Another option, Oak Haven, FL, is to call your local cleanup and restoration company. They can do the deep cleaning that even day-to-day housecleaning services sometimes miss.
On a weekly to biweekly basis, you should be cleaning the inside and outside of your appliances. Remember to use a gentle cleanser and cloth so you can prevent a fire risk. Regular cleaning can prevent odors from building up, such as a rancid, rotten smell or a smoke smell. Follow these simple tips for keeping your kitchen a cleaner, safer space to use.
